Delhi weather is usually hot and humid throughout the year, and it is considered as having a humid- subtropical climate.  The most distinct characteristic of Delhi weather is the monsoon wind, which takes place sometime after September.  The monsoon wind in Delhi is quite unpredictable, as it is usually difficult to predict which direction it will take.  The lowest recorded temperature is -1 C and the highest recorded temperature is 46 C.

The average temperature during the summer ranges from 25º C to 40º C.  The summer season lasts until October and furthermore, Delhi weather during this period is very hot and usually uncomfortable.  May and June are considered to be the hottest months of the year, as the temperature often exceeds 40 C.  Additionally, during this time, heat waves called Loo occur, which often cause extreme weather conditions.  Around late June, Delhi weather is moderated by the arrival of the monsoon, which brings some relief from extreme heat.  The monsoon period, which lasts from June to October, is the rainy period for Delhi, as it is the time when the city receives most of its precipitation.

Winters are relatively short, as they start from the end of November and continue until late February. Delhi weather during winter is very cold and foggy.  This is due to the cold waves which come from the Himalayan. The average winter temperature is 12-13 C, however, the temperatures can drop to as low as 3 to 4º C at the peak of winter.  During January, thick fog covers Delhi and substantially reduces visibility on the streets.  However, winter days are usually pleasantly sunny.
